Science Lab Technician

• Under the overall control of the Head of Science and Senior Technician, to coordinate the use and development of practical resources and facilities

• Preparing of resources, chemicals and apparatus and running trials of experiments prior to lessons

• Ensuring all health and safety procedures are understood, followed and used correctly

• Providing advice on health and safety issues to teachers and support staff

• Carry out risk assessments for technician activities

• Taking an active role in the evaluation process and in-service training aimed at improving performance in the role

• Assisting in practical lessons and carrying out demonstrations

• Collecting, checking and returning equipment to stores

• Assisting in the assessment, monitoring and review of health and safety procedures

• Organising, storing and checking the condition of chemicals and equipment so that they meet the needs of the Science department

• Repairing and constructing specific pieces of equipment

• Preparing solutions, purifying chemicals and treating waste in order to dispose of any hazardous material in accordance with health and safety guidelines and the law

• Regular checking of all Science areas and ensuring they are clean, maintained and well-stocked

• General laboratory cleaning of bench surfaces, glassware and equipment

• Assisting in the taking of inventory

• Procuring materials by local purchase when necessary

• Assisting in issuing and receiving textbooks to and from students and academic staff

• Working with individual students on research projects

• Completing general support tasks such as display boards, photocopying, filing, labelling, etc.

• Degree/Diploma in Science - background knowledge of science.

• Good command of English

• Well organised and most importantly to be able to work as part of the team

WORKING TIME: 7:30 am – 4:00 pm (Monday- Friday), 30 minutes for break
